Wholesome Women
~ Pursuing Biblical Vision of Wholesomeness ~

Hi, my name is Sofia. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. Welcome to my website, Wholesome Women.
I chose the name ‘Wholesome Women‘ because it comes from a deep ache in my heart and it also expresses hope for my longing. The mental picture I have for a Wholesome Woman is a woman who is healthy physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Her beauty shines from the inside out, her personality and countenance are pleasing. She has an unassuming inner peace and she is deeply content with herself and her circumstances. She has confidence concerning her future and knows how to manage her ‘multiple worlds’. She is using her unique gifts and talents fully for the benefit of others. She is already healed and restored, not broken and fragmented.
What does it mean to be ‘whole’ for a woman as we juggle our multiple roles daily and feel we are stretched in multiple directions? How can I be a blessing for other people when I myself always feel short of time managing my own responsibilities? How can I cope with the daily worries and anxieties? How can I be set free from the gnawing sense of loss within? How do I resolve relationship aches with love and good sense? What is the point of my existence and what am I living for? How can I find my way and please God with my limitations?
I try to find the answers to all those questions from the Bible and my experiences in life. I collect the clues I find along the way and I chronicle these personal mental journeys in this website for the benefit of my sisters in faith and also my own daughters.
“There is nothing new under the sun”, this old adage in a way has put me off to start this blog for the longest time. I thought no fresh insight or knowledge I am able to contribute to the already massive barrage of information on the internet. Yet the urge continues. So I settle with this resolve, perhaps there is still a place for my life lessons to be represented in the language of my generation. My hope is all these will prove to be useful for the readers, not just an additional noise in the already clamorous world wide web.
My Life Theme
I noticed that in each person there are only a few common themes that characterize their lives. There are key messages and lessons that God placed before them in pivotal points of their lives, such as healing, forgiveness, faith, family, finance, work, self-image, purpose. For my life, the ever-present thread that has been a wonder and a struggle since I was a child is the subject of calling and purpose for women.
I found my disposition had swung like a pendulum, from the left feminist to the right traditionalist, yet I know it is not about balancing the middle ground. I want to find the ultimate path and truth. I realize my feelings and thoughts can very much be biased by my personal desires, drives, hopes and fears, that is why every insight and experience must be interpreted and anchored by God’s timeless and objective truth.
Wisdom from the Word and the World
I can chuckle now reminiscing how my youthful ideas of what a ‘productive’ life should look like came crashing down hard meeting the demands of motherhood. Yet it was very hurting then because a part of you had actually died. However, as things operate in His Kingdom, better and life-giving things will grow to replace the loss, if we deny ourselves to follow Him. We will talk more about this journey in the Blog Posts. 🙂
As a believer, I am seeking His original blueprints through digging in the ‘Word’ and discerning how these truths would play out in the present ‘World’. I am not seeking ‘common sense’ wisdom on how to do life, but something that is more foundational and authoritative from the Creator of life Himself. My prayer is the clues I have discovered and experienced along the way would shed more light to the pilgrims in the same path. Wherever you are, my heart is already warmed thinking of you.

A little background about me: I have been married for 15 years to my husband, Tommy and I am a stay-at-home mother of two daughters, age 11 and 9, Nadia and Elise. At this phase in our lives, we also educate our children at home.
Ideas – Interpretations – Inspirations
To create means to re-create, all original ideas are from God. Just like an artist trying to create a painting of a landscape by emulating the shapes and colors on a canvas, I consider myself an artist. But instead of using hues of colors, the expression of words is my chosen instrument. The process of creation often takes a significant time and effort, but I am willing to press on because it is also my great joy if my writing can benefit others.
This blog is a collection of ideas, interpretations, inspirations and revelations (All errors within this blog are duly mine). The objective is to encourage women pursuing a Biblical vision of wholesomeness in their own unique God-designed way and leading a purposeful life. This effort is also motivated by my passion to pursue a writing ministry for women in my generation. Just like Apostle Peter writing the two letters in the Bible, his intentions resonate mine.
2 Peter 3:1: I have written both of these letters as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.
An Invitation
I wrote a Women Discipleship Guidebook that you can download for free here. If you subscribe by giving your name and e-mail information in any of the website forms, you will receive a catalog of books I find useful from my personal library and I will also send a (monthly) newsletter of Wholesome Women news and updates. E-mail is the best way to get in touch with me. I am not very active on social media but we can also be connected on Facebook or Instagram.
I pray this blog would enlighten and encourage fellow sisters in their personal journey with Jesus. If you find the content is useful, would you share this blog with your friends? We will never be perfect, but we can still be wholesome women through and in spite of our weaknesses. All glory due to Him.
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God. (Phil 1:9-11)
Blessings,
Sofia
